WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REAL ESTATE AGENT AND A REALTORĀ®?
The main difference between a Real Estate Agent and a RealtorĀ® is that a RealtorĀ® is a member of the National Association of RealtorsĀ® (NAR), a professional association that requires its members to meet certain standards, abide by a strict code of ethics, and hold themselves to a higher standard of service. Additionally, RealtorsĀ® have access to certain tools, resources, and opportunities that are not available to Real Estate Agents.
The NAR Code of Ethics was its founding principle when founded over 100 years ago in 1908. “It was founded on the principles of the “Golden Rule” and requires that RealtorsĀ® cooperate with each other to further the best interests of consumers and their clients.” (source: inman.com)
NAR’s mission is to protect the real estate industry for its professional members as well as buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real property. Every RealtorĀ® partner must also participate in their local association, maintaining involvement in local leadership, legislation, and continued education.
NAR also fully embraces diversity and inclusion, advocating for continued fair housing legislation.
I would encourage every Real Estate Agent to work with a brokerage that support’s NAR’s high level of ethical standards. This ensures professional development and accountability, so that we as RealtorsĀ® deliver the highest level of services and resources to our clients.
I would also encourage every buyer and seller to work with an Agent with the RealtorĀ® designation, as we are trained to provide you with the highest level of service, and we are also held to that high standard, so you have peace of mind that not only your RealtorĀ®, but the entire brokerage will support you.
Sincerely,Ā
